November 4th-8th

We have a lot of information this week.  Please review for our upcoming events and academics.

LITERARY AND HISTORICAL FIGURE DAY:
Literary and Historical Figure Day is this Friday, November 8th.  A flyer was sent home a couple of weeks ago with information and guidelines.  I am including the guidelines in this letter as well.
Dress Up Guidelines:
1.  Your costume must be of a literary or historical figure that is a part of the Archway Trivium East curriculum, or a character from a book in the library.
2. Your costume should cover at least the same areas as the Archway polo and shorts/skirts (just above the knee). No jeans.
3.Items in your costume should not have any logos on them.
4.You may wear non-uniform shoes (such as sandals), provided that they are appropriate for your character.
5.No masks, face paint, or hair dye are permitted.
6. Small props are allowed, but should be put away during class. No props that are or appear to be weapons are permitted.
7. Students who do not follow the guidelines for dress-up day may be sent home.
8. You are not required to dress-up.
9. Gentlemen should dress up as male figures and ladies should dress up as female figures.

Below is a few examples of what 1st grade scholars have dressed up as in the past.
Sherlock Holmes
Egyptian
Character from classic fairy tales
Characters from Aesops (one girl dressed up as a cow from the Maid in the Milkpail)
Abraham Lincoln

This is just a few of many.  If you are unsure if a character appropriate please e-mail me.

UNIFORMS:
Mr. Scott has communicated school wide, some areas of  uniform dress code and specifically  violations we typically see when the weather changes. Please review to ensure your scholar is complying with the dress expectation.  We will send home friendly reminders to let you if we see a violation.

- Cardigan sweaters, pullover, or fleece jackets are allowed in the classroom as long as they are from the uniform store with a school patch.  Pullover sweaters or sweater vests (non Dennis/Anton) are not allowed in the classroom even if a patch is sewn on to them.

- Students may pull  long sleeve shirts on over their head to wear outside.  However, students may not wear long sleeve shirts under their short sleeve polo shirts.  Long sleeve polo shirts are available to purchase through the uniform vendors. (Note* - I have learned  from experience that the long sleeve polo shirts run small so if you choose to order one order one size larger.)

- Shoes must be solid white or solid black tennis  shoes.  High tops and boots are not allowed.

- All students must wear a dark belt with pants or shorts.

Please refer to the family handbook for more specific details or examples about the uniform dress code.

ACADEMICS:
Spalding - Students will learn ten new words on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  The review is  on Thursday and the spelling test is on Friday.
