November 12-15

Greetings 1A Families,

Literary and Historical Figure Day
I added a fun picture from our literary and historical figure day... Mrs. Villalvazo and I as Ancient Egyptians.  The first grade team all dressed up as Egyptians to celebrate the culmination of our history unit.  It was a fun and some what crazy day.  We had other Egyptians, Pocahantas, Theodore Roosevelt, Elmer Elevator, Alice, The Queen of England, princesses, Owl, Frida Kahlo, Dorothy, Frog, and I am sure there were more.  They were all adorable. We finished the day with a popsicle celebration with the entire school.  It was a lovely event to celebrate literacy and the study of history.

Below is the overview of academics this week and important dates to note.

ACADEMICS:
Spalding - Students will learn 11 new words on Tuesday and 10 new words on Wednesday.  We will review the words on Thursday.  The 21 word spelling test is on Friday.
Note - Today we had two words that were challenging for the scholars - its (a pronoun used in place of a nouns such as "The dog lost its collar.") and it's (the contraction for it is such as "It's nice out.)  We spent a long time discussing the difference between the two words but it won't hurt to discuss it at home as well.
