May 24-26

Wow! We made it to the last week of school.  I am so excited and ready for a break however it is so bittersweet and a little emotional to know we say goodbye.  No matter how old they get I will think of them as my students.  They each take a little piece of my heart with them.  I am so excited for them.  They have come so so far this year and have defeated obstacles no one in long time had ever faced before 2020.  They are victorious!

No homework this week but please keep an eye out on Tuesday, in red folders, for summer math and reading activities.  I have spent some time putting these together for skills practice.  I would also recommend and highly encourage daily reading for 30 minutes each day and math facts practice over the summer.  Get them a special journal and encourage them to write stories, thoughts, letters, lists, recipes, anything that allows them to practice writing skills and writing independently.  I also highly recommend programs like Sylvan Learning Center, Kumon, and Mathnasium not only for struggling students but also for students who like extra challenges.  These can be other avenues to prepare for second grade.  I also have recommendations for private tutors trained in Spalding and Singapore math.  Enjoy your break, play, have fun, camp, go on vacation, but keep some learning in the mix.  It sets them up for a successful school year after break.

Blue Folders:

Please send back blue folders if you have not so already.  I will be sending home final graded work on Wednesday.
