Hello 1A Families,
I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who participated in the Read-A-Thon. Our class raised the most money in the school and won a $50 dollar credit for classroom books. I was able to pick out a few books to add to our classroom library. We also had several books donated from families too!
Last week we also celebrated historical figure and literary character dress up day. What a fun way to celebrate our rich culture and curriculum. We had Puss and Boots, Cinderella, The Fox and the Grapes, The Tin "Girl," Rapunzel, Frog, Sacagawea, Pocahontas, Egyptians, Pinocchio, Little Red Riding Hood, and Sam the Minuteman. I loved seeing all the creative costumes. The whole school enjoyed popsicles and a little skit from Peter Pan and his crew.
This week is a short week for us as we prepare for the holiday weekend. May you all enjoy the extra time together. Have a great week!
MATH:
We are studying Geometry! It is one of my favorite units to teach. Afterall, who could not love geometry? Especially at the first grade level when there is so much exploring involved. I have sent home a "Friendly Notes" packet that covers everything we are learning. It is in the red homework folders. Please keep it at home with the other notes to use when helping your child with homework. Do not send it back to school.
SPALDING:
This week we will only be learning 10 words. The review will be on Tuesday and the spelling test will be on Friday.
HISTORY:
While studying the Maya and Aztec civilizations last week, the students found it very interesting at how similiar they were to the Ancient Egyptians. They also enjoyed solving math problems using the Maya number system. This week the focus will be on the ancient Aztec and Inca civilizations.
LITERATURE:
Frog and Toad Together
