March 22-26

Greetings 1A Families,

I hope your weekend was restful. Our first week of quarter four was wonderful.  I love this time of the year because many connections are being made.  We've worked hard to lay the foundation and can now put many of those foundational skills to use.  I was so excited last week as we began writing summary paragraphs.  My students were coming up with sentences that made sense and told main details of the story we read with little help from me.  Many did these sentences independently and I was on cloud nine as I watched all their hard work this year pay off.  It is hard to believe I only have a few short months with them. I hope to make the very best of our time together.

Please take a look at this week's academics.  I have also highlighted the uniform focus for this week. Please take note of this excerpt from the student handbook and if needed make the adjustments necessary,

The sock policy is as follows:

Socks must be solid black, blue, or white without visible logos or designs. The length must cover the ankle but be below the shin. Watch out specifically for the designs and logos.

GENERAL ACADEMICS:

Spalding - Students will learn 10 new words on Monday, 10 new words on Tuesday, and 10 new words on Wednesday.  The spelling review of the 30 words will be on Thursday.  The spelling test will be on Friday.
Math - Monday is the first day of the Numbers to 120 unit.  The first section of "Friendly Notes" for this unit will be sent home in the red homework folders on Wednesday.  Please keep the "Friendly Notes" pages and use them as reference when helping your scholar with homework.
- We are also going to be sending black and white photocopies of base ten blocks home on Wednesday as well.  I highly suggest that you cut out the ten sticks and the ones and place them in a zip-lock bag.  They will be very helpful with the current math unit.
