Oct. 26-30

 

Hello 1A families.  We hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend.  We have a full week of learning ahead of us.  Virtual Curriculum Night is this Tuesday, October 27th from 6 pm to 6:45 pm.  Curriculum Night will provide you with an overview of the philosophy of our curriculum, followed by a grade level sample lesson.

Read-A-Thon

This is the last week for the Read-A-Thon.  Please encourage your scholar to read as much as possible.  The Read-A-Thon ends this Friday, October 30th.

RAZ-Kids and XtraMath

Make sure your scholar is reading every night.  Books have been assigned under their assignments tab in RAZ-Kids.

XtraMath should be completed 3 times a week. 

 

Personal Items

Make sure all personal items are labeled properly with your scholar’s name.  Water bottles, lunch boxes and sweaters should be labeled properly for easy identification.

Distance Learning Information

Please make sure that your scholar is wearing his/her school uniform and has the following items available when meeting during the live interactions meetings:
erase board and marker
math manipulatives (located under the Parent Resources topic) in the Google Classroom)
pencil
Spalding paper

Scholars will not need everything each meeting, but it is good to have those items on hand.  

Academics

Spalding – Scholars will learn 24 new words.  Phonogram Quiz on Thursday, October 29th.  Spelling Test on Friday, October 30th. 

Math – Scholars will add within 20 and subtract a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number.  Weekly Quiz, Friday October 30th.

Friendly Notes - Students will be bring home a math unit 6 set of "Friendly Notes" today.  They will be in the red homework folders.  Please keep the friendly notes at home and use them as a resource when helping your scholar with homework.  If you scholar is a distance learner, the friendly notes are under the Parent Resources topic in the Google Classroom.

Literature – Frog and Toad

Grammar – Common nouns and proper nouns.

Science – Scholars will continue to discuss atoms.  Matter Test on Thursday, October 29th.

Poetry – Bird Talk by Aileen Fisher
