Quarter 4 April 1-5

We had such a blast last Friday.  Field day was a success thanks to all the help from our PSO, parent volunteers, and the work invested by Mr. Scott and Mr. Conklin.  Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day a success.

WILDLIFE WORLD ZOO:
The first grade field trip to the Wildlife World Zoo is this Thursday, April 4th.  Below is some information about the day.
Clothing -
Students must wear their school uniform.  It is usually slightly chilly in the  morning but it does get hot very quickly.  If your child wants to wear a jacket in the morning, make sure  it is light-weight so they can tie it around their waist when it gets hot.
Your child may bring a hat and sunglasses to wear at the zoo. Scholars will be  responsible for their jackets, hat, and sunglasses.
Sunscreen -
Please make sure to put sunscreen on your scholar before they come to school.
Water bottles -
Students may bring a DISPOSABLE water bottle.  Please make sure to label the disposable water bottle with your child's name.
Lunches -
All lunches must be  packed in a disposable baggie or paper bag.  Please pack food items in disposable baggies.  Students will be eating lunch at the zoo.  Uneaten items and lunch bags will be disposed of at the zoo.
Feeding the animals-
There are several feeding stations around the zoo.  If your child would like to feed the animals, please place some quarters  in a plastic zip-lock bag with your child's name clearly labeled on the baggie.
Gift Shop and Zoo Rides -
Scholars will not be shopping at the gift shop or riding any of the zoo rides.
Academics -
The first grade academic day will continue upon return to the school.

ACADEMICS:
Spalding - Students will learn 10 new words on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, review the 30 words on Thursday, and take the spelling test on Friday.
Math - Last week we focused on numbers as tens and  ones (85 is 8 tens and 5 ones, 85 = 80 +5), number order, number words, and counting by 10s.  Students completed a short quiz covering the basics of  those concepts.  A "Friendly notes" information page was sent home in your child's red homework folder.  This week we are focusing on tens and ones, estimating numbers, number order, counting on/back by 1 or 10 (96 +1, 96 - 1, 77+10, 77 - 10)
History - American colonies, Revolutionary War, George Washington, American symbols
Literature - Sam the Minuteman
