January 27-31

Greetings,

We have a full week of academics and are working hard with new concepts in math, grammar, words in Spalding that are new and more rigorous, and also getting to enjoy lovely tales written my Beatrix Potter.  Reading groups are in full effect and our scholars are working hard in class becoming better readers but the true work of reader is that in the home.  Be sure that your child is reading to an adult daily and that you are able to read to them regularly.  Not only is this act of reading going to help them progress, it is a beautiful time to spend with your child that they cherish.

I also wanted to send in a friendly reminder to please keep your child home from school if they have a fever.  Our school policy states that children should not return to school until they have been fever free (without medication) for 24 hours.  We are diligent in the classroom to be disinfecting surfaces, encouraging hand washing, hand sanitizer, using a tissue, and covering coughs and sneezes.  These are good habits that start in the home as well. It is also a good habit to regularly wash jackets, lunch boxes, and even backpacks if you are able.  These can often be thrown in the wash on a hot/gentle cycle and will kill germs and help prevent the spreading of lice and bacteria.  Thank you for considering these preventative measures to help be proactive in maintaining the health of our community.

ACADEMICS:
Spalding - Students will learn 10 new words on Monday - Wednesday, review the 30 words on Thursday, and have the test on Friday.
- Spalding rule pages were stapled into the red homework folders last week.  Please use that as a resource when helping your scholar.
- Reminder- Spelling homework is not a copy work assignment.
Directions:
1. Say the word. Use it in a sentence. Say the word again.
2. Have students write the word with markings. (If you notice them struggling, have them spell the word on their fingers first)
3. Repeat with the rest of the words.  (If you notice your child misspelled a word, stop and help them with the correct spelling.)
4. Complete the list a second time in a different order.
Math - Adding and subtraction numbers to 40

Students should have the first two stanzas memorized now.  This week focus on the third stanza.
