WOW!
Wow! We did it. The first grade class and teachers have successfully made it through the first week of school and are now entering week two. My favorite part of last week was my students' smiles!
This blog is going to be another one full of a lot of important information. ;-)
THANK YOU!First of all, I wanted to say thank you.
- Thank you to all of you who sent e-mail reminders as to where your scholars go. Both students and teachers are learning so I really appreciate those of you who sent those quick reminders such, "Bob goes to the after school program on Wednesday afternoons." After school clubs will be starting in a couple of weeks so thank you in advance for letting me know the days your scholar may be attending clubs.
- Thank you to Mrs. Villalvazo, who has been painstakingly going through the supplies that have come in. She has spent hours labeling the ones that were not labeled and doing her best to keep track of which supplies still need to come in. If you end up getting double notifications of things you have already turned in just jot a note on the paper letting us know.
- There is a lot to keep track of in the first few weeks. Thank you for working with us as we get to know each other.
HOMEWORK FOLDERS, AGENDAS, AND MATH WORKBOOKS:
Red homework folders will be sent home every night Monday - Thursday.
Agendas will be sent home everyday including Fridays.
Math workbooks will be sent home each day a page is assigned. Please make sure everything is placed in your scholar's backpack and returned the next day.
DRESS CODE / UNIFORM POLICY:The Great Hearts Academy network has a strict uniform policy. Being a mom myself, I understand that sometimes a belt is forgotten or a child puts on a pair of bright red socks that goes unnoticed until they arrive in the classroom. If we notice things like that we will send a dress code reminder on the homework logs. If we notice something that is consistent with several students we will send a reminder through the blog.
Dress code reminder: Shoes must be solid black or solid white. If there is white soles on black shoes or pink stripes on white shoes please use shoe polish to cover it up.
MATH:
Review - At the beginning of the year, first grade does a lot of math review. This week we are reviewing numbers through ten. This review is very important and builds a strong foundation as each concept builds on top of the other.
Math Homework - Math homework is listed on the homework log. Please do only the workbook page that is listed in the log. If you notice any struggles or successes, feel free to write a note on the assigned homework page, the homework log, or send me an e-mail.
Xtramath - Xtramath is also part of the homework and needs to be completed at least three times each week. Last week the sign-up/ log in directions, and your child's pin number was sent home in the homework folders. Please make sure your scholar is signed up by the end of the week.
ACADEMICS:
Math - Review numbers and numbers through ten. This is a short chapter. We will review concepts taught during the week on Thursday. The math test will be on Friday.
