March 19th-23rd

Welcome back families! I hope everyone had a restful break. We heard lots of stories about camping, road trips, amusement parks, play dates, and so on. We are now in the 4th quarter of the school year. I cannot believe how quickly the year has gone. And I am amazed at how much our scholars have grown.

The fourth and final quarter is the most important as it is the last few weeks to prepare our students for what is ahead of them. We must continue to finish this last stretch of the race just like a runner. Even though the race has been at length and at times our endurance waivers we save the last of our strength and give the end of the race our all and we sprint to the finish line.

We are excited about the coming months and we look forward to  learning about the thirteen colonies and there fight for independence, then onto westward expansion of the United States, we will study the planet earth and our solar system, and enjoy great literary works about history and a classic tale titled "My Father's Dragon." We still have so much ahead of us. Looking forward to a fruitful and productive fourth quarter.

FIELD TRIP:
Thank you to those willing to volunteer for the field trip.  All chaperone spots are filled.

MATH:
We have two very short units coming up in the next two weeks.  The first is a brief fraction unit.  The "friendly notes" page was sent home today in your child's red homework folder.  The fractions unit test will be on Wednesday.  On Thursday we will start a brief unit on time.  The "friendly notes" page for the unit  on time will be in your child's red homework folder  on Thursday

Please continue to practice the basic addition and subtraction math facts with your child.  In about three weeds we will begin our unit on "Numbers through 120."  Fluency with the basic math facts will help the scholars with that unit immensely.

LITERATURE:
We will begin reading Sam the Minute Man this week.

HISTORY:
This week we will begin studying the 13 colonies and the events that led up to the revolutionary war.
