August 28- September 1

Here is a look at our week.

MATH:
We will continue to focus on number bonds for most of the week.  The unit 2 test on number bonds is this Thursday.  We will be spending our entire math block on Wednesday reviewing.  During curriculum night, several parents asked for the website to order number bond cards.  I did find some similar to the one we use in the classroom on Amazon.  The link is:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1936266474/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2P5I4NW0QQAX1

If you cut and paste the link into the browser bar it will  take you directly to the page.

We took a number bond quiz this past Thursday.  It is in the "stay at home" side of the  homework folders.

MATH WORKBOOKS:
The majority of math homework assigned is in the math workbooks.  We also use the math workbooks in class almost  every single day.  Please make sure the workbooks are sent back to school each  day.  Occasionally students have a chance to work on their math  homework in the classroom.  Even if students have a chance  to finish the homework, the workbooks are still sent home.  Please check over the homework even if you child has told you that it is finished.

SPALDING:
Another item that several parents asked for on curriculum night is a copy of Spalding paper that is used in the classroom.  A copy of the Spalding paper is in the "stay at home side" of the homework folder.

OTHER ACADEMIC AREAS:
Literature: - Different Lands, Different Stories
Writing/Grammar: nouns, proper nouns, capital letters at the beginning of sentences, end marks at the end of sentences
Handwriting: letter formation, letters touching the baseline (bottom line)

UNIFORM DRESS CODE:
The uniform dress code is in the family handbook as well as the front pages of the student agenda.  Please make sure to look over it carefully.  The two most common dress code violations seen in first grade is not wearing a belt and the color of the socks.
"Socks for K-5 girls:
Color: Solid White or Navy
Length: Knee-high, ankle (must cover ankle bone) socks and/or nylon tights
Girls may also wear white  or navy tights"

"Socks for K-5 boys
Color: Solid White or Navy
Length: Sport sock, crew or ankle (must cover the ankle bone)"

Belts:
"The slacks/shorts should have belt loops and a solid, black belt should be worn."

In the past I have had parents ask if I knew of belts there were easy to buckle.  Velcro belts are available at the uniform stores as well as on Amazon.

Feel free to e-mail if you have  questions about the uniform dress code.
